Latin and Afro-Cuban drumming is built on the clave — a rhythmic key that organizes everything else. Understanding clave deeply is not just about knowing where the beats fall; it is about internalizing a rhythmic logic that pervades every phrase you play.

These lessons focus on coordination, groove, and the relationship between different percussion voices — adapted to the drum set, with an emphasis on making it musical rather than mechanical. Latin and Brazilian rhythms share roots in important ways, and many students find that exploring Latin music deepens their understanding of Brazilian styles.
